Sadly I haven't flown since 2008 and don't foresee flying again anytime soon so I'm thinking of selling a bunch of my hardware. Is anyone interested in a GPSmap 396 with remote GPS module and XM antenna? If you are interested let me know and we can figure out a price that works for both of us.

I have 2 796s, an iPad, an iPad mini and fight software for my iPhone. I have no room for a 396.

Thanks anyway.

How do you like the Garmin 796v I've been think about one for a while but the expense (the charts and XM weather) has put me off. I like the iPad but glare, overheating and weather make it limiting.

Like I said, I use all of them, sometimes all at once. Honestly, I like the 796 the best. I have migrated to using the iPad primarily for charts as it's faster than the 796 to find something. I have the Garmin GLO for the iPad and its GPS and tracking are excellent, but, like you said, the screen is not as easy to read in some light/glare. A friend of mine uses an anti-glare screen. It's OK but cuts down on the resolution of some stuff without zooming.
