Subject: Fuel Pressure
Guys
The last two flights I have taken I noticed a drop in fuel pressure. I have the Dynon DEK-180 and the pressure gauge has been very accurate and steady for 200 Hrs. Now I notice the usual 2.3 to 2.5 fuel pressure will drop to 1.5 to 1.7 using the engine driven pump only. After 10 to 15 seconds it will go back up to 2.3. At times it will stay at the lower pressure even with the boost pump turned on. When the pressure does come up I can turn off the boost pump and the engine driven pump will usually maintain the usual pressure. Sometimes it will return to the higher pressure without me turning the boost pump on.
This happened 6 to 8 times during the last (2 ) 1 hour flights. The flights were nearly identical with two stops with engine shut down at each stop. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Also what is the expected life hours of the engine driven fuel pump?
I know the Bing carb will run on much lower pressure than 2 psi but I am concerned about what caused the change and will it continue to drop.
My electric boost pump is piped in parallel with the engine driven pump. I have replaced my electric boost pump when the gauge showed "Zero Pressure" before start up about a year ago. The electric pump was bad. The new electric pump has about 40 hours on it. I am wondering if the engine pump could be by-passing fuel back thru the boost pump check valve.
Both have been working flawlessly for the last 40 hours.
Any ideas??
