Hi

Just curious what options have worked for installing cabin heat in Pulsars. My passengers seem to be getting cold even on mild winter’s days.
I did a search on the forum and noticed Barry (G-XPXP) has a small radiator with a fan but hoping there may be a conventional kit that fits/works to give lots of heat.
Cheers

I just ran across this inexpensive auto heater at Harbor Freight. I haven't tried it but when I saw it I thought that it might work in my Pulsar. Take a look.

What is your power budget look like.  Rotax  without a separate alternator only puts out about 12 or 15 amps!  Usually this is used by other components.

I have the heater kit in my XP, but it never worked well until I got the oil temperature up around 200 degrees F, and thus the water temp up around 180.  I have flown at 7 degrees outside air temp and have been comfortable, on a sunny day.

The Pulsar 582 that I just bought has a collector on part of the back of the right radiator and a duct to carry the hot air to the cockpit. The builder said it worked good in Houston area cold weather.

Scott,

I have a 582 that I did the plumbing to tee into the radiator coolant. I found a computer radiator that fits a 5 inch fan and has half inch threaded couplings that I used for the interior heater core. Works okay but the 582 thermostat opens at around 150 degrees which doesn't through off allot of heat at the heater core.

One thing that does work surprisingly well. I purchased a $20 electric car seat heater/cushion. It is both seat and back cushion with heater. On the low setting it consumes around 2 amps and on high around 3-1/2 amps. It heats up quickly and I feel the high setting is a bit too hot. I think the fiberglass construction insulates and contains the heat this device puts out.

I hope this adds to your options to consider.

Ron

Hello Scott, If you can come up with the electrical power resource electrically heated clothing is a very effective way to go. See here:

I use a Pontiac heater core and a five inch computer fan and route coolant through it in the winter. I also block one of the radiators to get the coolant temps up to about 180 when it's really cold. Plenty of heat. I use cable operated valves to route the coolant.
