Thanks all for your suggestions.  All less expensive than a Tanis engine heater. Since my airplane is currently always hangared in the wintertime, I have built a PVC frame to cover the front cowling. Plan to cover it with wool blankets (available at Harbort Freight for $10 each)  Heating this with a radiant oil filled radiator ( no open heat coils)  

 Will send pictures and let you all know how this works.
