Hi Bill,
Not flying yet (boooo!) so can't help. But nice to know you're around. I don't lurk on the forums much these days, but still plugging away on the FWF. Just had to pull the bushings out of the engine shaft flange because it's for a fixed-pitch prop, but I bought a Whirlwind prop which was designed as a constant speed but then changed to a ground-adjustable. Needs two flush bushings and four shorter than any of the fixed pitch bushings. Demands of work have really interfered with plane-building for the past 18 months.
Best,
John

Hi
What speed does everyone else use use for best angle and best rate of climb in their 801s? I use 70 MPH for both. I could not get my airspeed to stabilize enough to get more accurate.
What about best glide speed? Longest distance and longest time. I tried 68 MPH and got a 850' drop which gives a glide ratio or 7:1. Last fall after I pulled the 801 off floats I was doing some touch and goes and it looked like I glided a lot farther at 80 MPH than 70 MPH.
Does anyone have any data to share?
Here are my calculations for glide ratio:
68mph=100ft/sec=6000ft/min
6000 ft/min / 850 ft/min= 7:1

I posted this question on the Zenith.aero site. Ben, Ray and Dan answered. Is there anyone else that flys an 801 that has experimented with this?
