Hi all,
I'm looking for a bit of guidance in removing the aft accessory section from my Housai. You ask why do that and I need to remove and replace the generator clutch drive which is located in the accessory section.
The manuals don't give any insight into what to look out for when pulling it apart...the air start distributor and mags hang off the section and I don't want to screw up the timing. So I'm looking for a little assistance and guidance to make this process the least painful as possible. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob Davis

Bob,I think with my "help" it would be "the blind leading the blind" as I have never been into that end of the HS6A. You might try Jill at M14P INC. Sometimes they are very helpful, others it seems that they are protecting the info. Guess all they can say is "I don't know". I'd give Jill a call and see what she has to say.
If I was attempting it I would remove the prop to eliminate ANY chance of the blade being bumped even a little bit, which would change the start timing. Beyond that I really don't have any ideas.
Best,
Doug

The other person you might call is Allen Barrett at BPE out in Tulsa, OK. Although he works mostly on M14ps, they are almost the same. While I Have timed the start valve on the M14p, the hardest part I found was getting the steel lines back on. You really have to know the procedure, which part of the valve to line up, and a tool to do that. In my case I use a piece of looped .040 safety wire.

Why are you wanting to remove the aft accessory section? If you are working on the generator and it's drive gears, they are accessed from the top by removing the generator and the mounting plate. Unless you have sheared a gear in the case of there is a shaft bearing worn out, I can't see why the case needs to be removed.
Even with the prop removed, when the accessory case is removed the gears inside it will move which will turn the small drive gear that runs the air start and you will need to retime it on install. look closely at the accessory case diagram and you will see what I am referring to.
I have been inside this case several times due to the generator drive gear shearing a cog - don't ask....I found it.
