Hi Phil,
Walter Binders plane D-EPWB is a Classic Monowheel Kit 149 with Wing Fuel Tanks, elect. Retractable Outrigger Legs and a Tail Wheel with a mounting plate on top for the tow clutch. I am not quite sure if this was from an old Cessna Taildragger or a Husky.
He is using his own landing strip for towing the smaller glider he is manufacturing.
He also manufactures the EB 28 /29. Some years ago he had to use a parachute by test flying.

I believe that Erich Trombley visited with Walter Binder in Germany a couple of years back. He might have some pictures.

Thanks for this information. I hadn't made the connection with the name earlier but now I have. Much respect due to this chap - his EB29 has an L/D of 68:1 !!
A quick look at google images for 'D-EPWB europa' does in fact show a Europa mono with a tow hook attachment above the tail wheel and very interesting looking outriggers (let alone different cowls and many lightening holes in the swinging arm). Looking at the cowls, I guess he's fixed any potential cooling issues during the tow. Obviously a man who is not afraid to modify his aircraft!
Many thanks for the contact info.
