OK, I have unsubscribed and re-subscribed to see if the list server will accept my messages.

Guys,

Did you put tapes over the ribs on the control surfaces of your Kolb’s?

I don’t see anything in the instructions saying to do so, but I would thing that anyplace the fabric touches framework there should be a finishing tape.

All the tail feathers on my Firefly are now covered and shrunk. I am ready to apply perimeter tapes and got to thinking that the ribs on the elevators and rudder should also be taped.

What say you?

Thanks,

Stuart

StuartI bought a damaged Xtra, built by a very fine craftsman. Wing has reinforcing tape (1/2" wide) over the fabric and under the big-head rivets. Then finishing tape over that, and 4" bias tape over leading & training edges. Flaperons have 1-1/2" tape over all ribs & struts, bigger tapes over leading/trailing edges. Hope this helps

When I built my Challenger the Inspector who kept a watching brief over the standard of workmanship (thats the way we do it here) insisted on tape on every surface that the fabric was going to touch the fabric.
