I'm getting ready to repaint my cowling and would like to add some sort of heat barrier to the inside cowling to help shield the cowling from the engine heat. What type of heat barriers have members of this list found to be effective?

Vans sells some sticky foil type of heat shielding I have used on several RV's with good success.

I used this stuff extensively. My 582 exhaust elbow used to come within 1" of it on the inside of my cowl with no deleterious effects. The only down side is that eventually the adhesive fails and you have to replace it. I'd say I replaced it every 2-3 years.

Or install it with a thin layer of high temp RTV and a plastic squeege like used for smoothing bondo or installing vinyl graphics....
