Looking to loose a couple of pounds, does anyone make an aluminum exhaust elbow and muffler? Or is this just too hot for aluminum?

Aluminum melts at less than 1300 degrees F. EGT's are usually higher

than that. Even if it doesn't melt immediately, it will be so weak that
it will certainly fail.

Hmmm.. You are so correct, very low melting point. I should have looked that up before I asked. I didn't think it had such a low melting temp being the rest of the motor is made of aluminum, like pistons , exhaust ports etc...

I looked it up once. Titanium mufflers are made for motorcycles. I seem to remember that the price wasn't too bad, compared to Rotax. Have to check the flow rate, but sounds like one for a 450 would work.

Be careful when thinking of substituting Rotax 2-cycle exhaust parts (don’t), as the darned things are tuned to the engine for proper scavenging of the fuel/air mixture. To obtain maximum power, the exhaust system length is tuned to bring the fuel charge into the exhaust pipe and then suck it back into the engine before the exhaust ports close (reversion pulse). Modification of the exhaust system usually results in less power and/or unburned fuel blown out the exhaust and wasted.

Unless I am full of crap Smile

Yep, don't change that exhaust.  I tried putting a port in the Rotax muffler on a 447, to make more noise when I wanted to chase sheep.  Whenever I opened it there was a noticeable loss in power....
