First post!!

Hi,

I'm trying to trace the history of my "new" CJ-6A, serial 3151215, 1976 build. It is one of five on the UK register and was previously N91555.

I'm particularly interested if any photos exist of it in Chinese service before it was exported to the US.

Thanks.

Jay-Dub

Congratulations!

Looks like a nice a/c from the photo's I've seen.
Perhaps some of the CJ pilots at White Waltham would know, worth a trip there anyhow!

Very Happy

3151215 belonged to Bob Hanner before it was exported to Belgium.  Bob may have some info.  robhanner(at)cs.com

Thanks, gents. I'll drop Bob an email and see what he has to say.

Hi Harv,

JSA is a WW resident now. I was having a beer with a shades wearing Chang Driver of your acquaintance earlier in fact. We've done a bit of formation (at Duxford no less) and a photo session so far.

Would be interested to hear how you're getting on with your Article 10 exemption as I'd like to go down that route. I suspect a change of paint scheme will be in order at some point.... Rolling Eyes

Jay,

Speaking of tracing your CJ back to before it was exported, here are four pictures of my CJ-6A.
1. In China, being serviced by its PLAAF crew. Note to scratches on the upper cowling and the unusual lower cowling scoop.
2. In the States after export with a different owner. Note the exact same scratches and that same scoop.
3. Not long after I bought it through Jim Shelby in 2009. Ended up being quite a project.
4. Current condition at a local event. New paint, M-14P and Whirlwind prop.
Pretty cool, being able to have photos all the way back to its service in China.

Jay-Dub

I'll pop over to WW soon and say hello, perhaps we can get a 4 ship up in the air.

At this time I've given up with the Article 10 exemption as getting it or entering into any dialog takes longer than getting a pilots license. (Why they cant just approach it in the same way as other countries is beyond me, and re-painting the a/c is a PITA).

Funny how they seem to grant these exemptions if you own a Spitfire or Mustang etc even if the a/c isn't wearing a colour scheme the airframe flew with back in the day?!!

Warren, good to hear from you hope all is well there!

Having similar discussions as our Yak-52 wears a genuine WW2 Russian scheme with full permissions.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the contact. Unfortunately the email address bounces so no joy.

Kind regards,
