Hi all,
Just bought a mk3 classic with a 912 uls. The tach reading on the GR EIS reads about
1/2 the actual RPM , previous owner said it had just started.
It is wired through a kuntzelman hot box. All the info I can find says the pickup
Comes off a trigger coil that terminates at a two pin connecter. I can't find that
Coil, or the 2 pin connector. I've looked in the rotax manuals, ( line maint, operating instructions
and the heavy maint ). As the problem , I'm told , is likely a dirty connection , I would
like to run that circuit down and clean up the connections. If anyone could show me how
to find that coil and connection . Or just advise me on how to proceed I would sure
thank you.

my advanced eis - w for the rotax 912 engine says

Tachometer wiring
the best method of sensing engine RPM on the 912 engine is accomplished
using the tachometer trigger coil included in this engine. this trigger
coil has two wires coming from the engine, and they end in a 2 pin socket.
One of these wires should be connected to ground ( the - terminal of the
battery) and the other lead to the tach input of the EIS. since this
signal provides 1 pulse per revolution of the engine, the EMP setting on the
configuration set pages must be set to a value of 1. A 10 K Ohm resistor
( brown black orange gold stripes -- included in the parts pack) can be
installed between the eis tach input and the engine's tachometer output to
provide filtering, This is only necessary if your tachometer readings are
erratic, Normally this resistor is not required.
my eis has 2, 9 pin connectors my tach sensor wire goes in on pin 9 of
the connector which the power, master warning light, oil temp sensor,
coolant temp wires go into... the other 9 pin connector has the exhaust
and cylinder head temps (thermocouples) and oil pressure senders
connected.

I don’t know anything about the hot box,,, it may be a junction box wire
in,,,, wire out,,,, connection box... I am not sure if there is any other
electrical magic going on inside the box.

I don’t know if by any reason the emp setting on the eis configuration pages
had been changed,,,, or if something in the engine coil has changed.
good luck

Thanks Boyd,
I'll keep trying to find --- identify--- the trigger coil so far it has eluded me.
