Hi,After touching down the Yak started to shake violently. After reducing some speed the  shaking ended.
Checking the airplane, the nosewheel shimmy damper shaft was sheared.
What I would like to know is the reason for this failure. I mean, Is this a problem of hard landings?,  maybe a bad design? or just fatigue?
Thanks,
Jose del Peso

You did not mention the before condition of your dampener. If the shaft that holds the dampener to the plane is worn or any of it's components or the dampener it's self is not serviced or the tire is out of balance for long periods causing some of the fore mentioned issues it can cause pounding of the parts until something fails. I have seen a lot of dampeners loose hanging from the strut waiting to fail. I have personally shown some of the pilots this and they just look at me and say "yea that's how it was when I bought it"
