Question for all you Kolbers who fly a 912 -
Have you seen the recent 912 Service Bulletin SB-912-063, "Replacement of fuel pumps for Rotax-912," which recommends the fuel pump be replaced after 5 years?
According to the SB, for several engine serial number ranges, the original equipment fuel pump has a 5-year life and it is "RECOMMENDED" that these be replaced "with immediate effect."
My 912 was manufactured in 2001. So according to the bulletin, I'm WAY past due for a new one. Even though my Pierberg mechanical pump is still working fine. But this is not a MANDATORY service bulletin, so what do I believe? Do we treat this with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude?
Anybody done this yet? Your thoughts or recommendations?
Many thanks -

Dennis:
I ended up buying their overpriced Pierberg replacement pump for about
180.00. Ouch, that hurt. It is a nice pump though. Looks like premium
quality. Supposedly same one used on some model Porches. My original
Pierberg on my 2007 912 had begun to leak some oil out the weep hole. If it
was still serviceable, I'd probably still be flying it. I have a good Facet
boost pump to rely on.
