DonB,
I just flew today and observed the following:
My full throttle RPM at 100 MPH is 2830. ( From 60 to 1000' )
EGT's are 1200 to 1250 on #1 thru 4 and 6.
Number 5 is about 1300 ~ 1310. Outside air temp 92 degrees.
My Ram Air ducts at the rear tuck back toward the front at about a 45 degree angle following the curvature of the heads.
My conditional insp. is due in Sept and I am planning on tilting the bottom of the carb a little more toward the #5 cylinder.
I still have not heard from anyone who has drilled out the aerator that sits on top of the needle jet and the passage to it.
Bobby ( age 76 )
Zodiac 601 XL "B"
Jabiru 3300 S/N 1141
Sensenich 64" x 51" Prop
Bing Carb 260 Main & 290 Needle Jet
Status - Flying 224 hrs.

If you are considering tilting the carb only do it if cruise egt’s are higher on one side than the other. Do not tilt the carb based on a full throttle climb reading. Climb the aircraft to a typical cruise altitude, throttle back to a cruise rpm, let temperatures stabilize and then write down your EGT’s. If the right side cylinders are consistently higher than the left side then consider tilting the carb.
