I was hoping to get a little advice about my air system. I've been battling an air leak for some time and thought I had it tracked down to the main air valve (pressure equalized over a couple of days - no movement when opening the air valve). I ordered a replacement from Doug. In the process of removing the old (heavily corroded, I might add), I snapped the line from the main tank right at the fitting. I was quite careful and used a fitting wrench. I suspect this was where the leak was all along.


So the question becomes, "what's the best way to fix this?" I'm not looking forward to replacing the whole line due to the route it takes - behind everything else. Is there a way to use a flexible braided line?


I figure I'll have to splice in a stub. What would I need to accomplish that?


Other than that, I'm ready to put the valve back in.

Hi Kurt

Did you try heating the nuts before loosening them?

I think you have 3 options here..

1. Make up a whole new line from the air bottle to the main air valve, that will take some hrs of work as you said to change out.

2. Make up a new pipe section to splice into the exiting system. You will need to get some more B nuts and have the ends flared to match the valve and then cut the broken line back and flare that also. You will need a fitting made to join these two pipe sections and that could me machined up from ali bar stock, tapered to match the line end flares and tapped to match the nuts OR perhaps an old fitting from a replaced diverter valve could be used.

3. Have a fitting made up from ali bar stock that screws directly to the main air valve port to lengthen it (by say 1"). You will then just cut back the broken pipe and re-flare it before bolting this new fitting on the valve and connecting the line.

I don't think any flexible hose would work due to the extreme pressure.

Do you have the new valve from Doug yet? The reason I ask is sometimes they come with some fittings attached.
