Guys
Just landed after a very smooth flight to Douglas, GA. to see an XP-82 being re-built.
On the way over I burned 4.25 gallons for .9 Hrs.
turning 2750 RPM. This was at 5,000' indicating 122MPH.
On the way back 2800 RPM burned 4.5 gal at .9 hrs. 6,000' to top the clouds and 124 MPH indicated.
EGT on #5 was 1330 while #3 was 1310 and all others were under 1250 degrees.
I think the carb needs a little tilt bottom toward 1,3,5 side.
Fuel was measured on a calibrated dipstick. So this is right at 5 GPH at 2800 RPM.
I am running a 290 needle jet. Do I need to richen it up a little or is this about right?
I am thinking of boring the 290 needle jet another .001 and tilting the carb bottom toward #5 side.
By the way the carb is super rich at idle and taxi. I would like to lean it at idle if it would not affect cold starts.
The plugs and exhaust pipe are sooty burning 94 Octane Marine ( auto fuel ).

Bob, I went through the same process and what you have is pretty close. I installed the hackman valve ( the info is on the web) and use it for finer adjustments. I don’t have to change any jets from summer to winter. I use the car gas also and get the soot but no real problem. Tex

With the Hackman kit, did you have to drill a port in the Bing? The Bing on my J2200 does not have an existing port to use.
