The reason for safety wire in both directions is:
When you check the oil, over time, when you screw the dipstick back in
you are tightening the dipstick tube, compressing the gasket more than
it was when you installed it.
After doing this over and over the tube is loose due to the compressed
gasket. When the tube is properly installed and safetyed in both
directions it stay exactly as it was when it was installed, and never
gets over torqued and eventual over compressed. The
backward safety prevent over torquing when checking the oil, which
compresses the gasket and causes it to become loose.
I have done this for for years and it works. I have no loose dipstick tubes
