Hello All
My Avelec Fuel level unit has stopped working, the sender top made of plastic seems to have broken up for some unknown reason.
This is the unit
http://www.avelec.co.uk/aircraft_fuel_gauges.htm
I want a new sender so hope it will be replaced easily, the sender length comes in 1/2 or 1 meter lengths and goes into the tank at an angle of 30 degrees, Anybody know what length I will need.,? will the 1/2 meter reach the bottom of the tank.
What is the actual tanks capacity 66 tts ?? is this the total ?
Tank equals ????
Reserve equals ???? please post.

Now for another strange problem,
Engine running at tick over, volt meter 12.5 volts.
Pull any CB and it remains at 12.5 volts.
Pull the CB marked" Fuel" the volt meter drops to zero, ???? WHY

As the sender is U/S I plan to cut the wire to it , and see if the volt meter still goes to zero.

Any comments.

Alan

Hi All.
Need some help.
I need an Avelec Sender unit, the one with the square black plastic top.
anybody got one,? I am having difficulty in getting in touch with Avelec.

Today I cut the wire on the sender unit, and the volt meter still falls to zero when I pull the fuel circuit breaker.
I don't know what's wrong, but I am breaking a circuit, so to me it seems like the volt meter comes off this CB, and when I pull it the volts go to Zero.
But this can't be right.

Alan

That sounds exactly what is happening. You need to trace the wiring for the voltmeter to find where it's connected.

the voltage sense is taken from the fuel flow circuit, which makes some sense as it is then fused

Many thanks to you both.
I am not a builder, but using my logic it appeared to me that the volt meter was in the same circuit as the fuel gauge, as when pulled the volts where zero, did not know if this was right though.
Is it just making use of a CB which happens to be the Fuel.
If so one would think connect the volt meter via the least important CB on the aeroplane, or is there more to it,??
Still that,s one problem sorted.

Any help with getting this Avelec sender, Avelec seem to be as as illusive as Arblast Propeller company in France.

HI.
Avelec have now been in touch with me,
The Avelec Sender only., is £138, the same price as the Air world kit which includes the gauge.

The Europa Fuel tank, is the capacity 66 lts total.
Which includes the 8 lts reserve.?

Hi Alan,             I bought my Europa from the original builder his records are very detailed.  The fuel tank capacity is stated to be a (nominal) 70 litres including a reserve of 9 litres.
I hope this helps.

Hi Jim.
So 73 to top of filler cap
73-9 so 64 in Main tank plus 9 in reserve.
So I could set my virtual FFM tank to 60. with 4 on the safe side.
