Thanks to the several folk who have kindly sent to me pictures of their firewall on the engine side. They have been helpful (and more are welcome if you have them), but looking at them has raised a further question.
I’m planning to fit the Skydrive carb heat kit, which gets its heat from the water system and fits between the carbs and the intake manifolds. It will cause the carbs and airbox (plenum chamber) to be a bit further aft, and I wonder how much room I’ll have for things fixed to the firewall in that central area. Can anyone who’s done this already tell me the distance between the firewall and the aft face of the airbox when the Skydrive carb heaters are fitted to a 912S on a XS fuselage?

Rowland,
On my XS/912s/skydrive heater the distance is exactly 100mm. But my carb heater is the original one. I believe the newer one has different measurements. You need to check.

Karl - thanks for your helpful posts. I’ve now dug my carb heater kit out of storage (I bought it in, I think, 2009) and I find it will displace the carbs by between 17.5mm and 18.5mm, so I think it must be the same as yours. The measure of 100mm from back of plenum chamber to firewall is very useful to know.
