John,

<<Did your homebuilt fly?>>

In my imagination I flew all over the Western Front along side Rickenbacker. We showed those dirty Huns a thing or two.  Incidentally, part of my inspiration came from the fact that just two years before, Lindberg and the Spirit of St. Louis flew directly over our house on his good will tour of the states. Can still see it in my old mind.

I threw in the pic of the Jr. because I'm impressed with the simillarity to our late model Kolbs.  Homer should go down as one of our best U.S. aircraft designers.

Where did you do your for pay jumping?  We share something there. I'm sending to your e-mail address a note about some of mine.

Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. It's not radically different. Just radically better.

Ray/Gang:

Went through Jump School at Fort Campbell, KY, 48 years ago. Was
assigned to Co D, 2d Abn BG, 187th Inf, 101st Abn Div. Jumped for 9
years. Then got my first "leg" assignment when I returned to the
States from the 5th SFG in VN. A couple years into the "leg"
assignment my dream to fly was fulfilled when I got orders for Rotary
Wing Training.

First flight in an airplane was an Aeronca Champ. Probably 1945 or
1946. My oldest brother had returned from WWII and the Navy. Used
his VA to get a private ticket. I was 6 or 7 years old. That ride
sparked my desire to fly that never went away, even to this day.

Next flight was after AIT at Ft Carson, CO, 1958, on a DC3 (civilian
C-47 Goonie Bird). We got weathered down in Indiana or Illinois, and
bused the rest of the way to Ft Campbell, KY. Up until the time I
went to Jump School, I had made two takeoffs and landings as a
passenger. For the next two years at Ft Campbell, I made a lot of
takeoffs and very few landings in an airplane. I liked jumping and
jumped every chance I got. Never got into sky diving. Could not
afford it back then. All my jumps I got paid for.

Used a hand deployed parachute twice since flying ULs. Both times
that parachute worked just as good as the old Army T-10 parachutes
did.

Take care,

john h
