My turn to complain and whimper. Been flying over 50 hours
at the same prop setting I started out at, derived from the prop
calc program. It was good enough to get me in the air and get
familiar (read: overcome fear of unfamiliar contraption)
with my plane. The Suzuki has a peak torque at 3800 rpm and
a peak HP at 5700. I picked a happy medium that gave me
about 4650 at the beginning of the takeoff roll and get 5000
WOT straight and level. The nice thing about it is the torque
gives you a nice steady push throughout the process.
The weakness is that if you pitch it for max HP, the fuel efficiency
falls off. There is a camshaft available that moves the torque
and HP peaks closer together that I am considering.
Anyway, recently I took some pitch out to see what one degree
will do with my rpm. Drenching rain prevents a test.
Reason for change: curiosity overcame laziness and I would
like to haul another butt into the air.
