Hi all,
Doing some research for a potential project and I'm looking for some information regarding aircraft exhausts. I live in a small community with an airport right in the middle of it, and would like to be a good neighbor and stay as quiet as I can.
Are there any manufacturers that specialize in ultra-quiet exhaust systems for aircraft that don't really hang down into the airstream too much? I've seen a couple of exhausts that folks have fashioned that are said to be very quiet ("Swedish Exhaust" if you were to do a web search on it), but I'd like to see if there is an option that kept it all under the cowl if I can.
Thanks for any information you can provide.
Best regards,
Chris

Forsling Aviation has Piccolo tubes (abt 6" long), that can be added to the
tips of conventional exhaust which help reduce noise.

Here is a short article I wrote about mufflers.

If you would like more pictures of the "Swiss muffler" I'll be happy to get some for you.

Thanks Mickey,
I've read the article about the Swiss muffler several times in the past. It's a unique idea, and it sounds like it works fabulously. Thanks for the link to the other silencer. I'll have to take some time and translate the content into English so I can read about it. It's intriguing because it looks like it fits competely beneath the cowl.
Appreciate the tip and the article! Feel free to pass along some of the photos you described as well. I can be reached at cowens (at) cnw (dot) com.
Many thanks,
Chris
