Did anybody install an access panel for the strobe light installation (transformer) in the outer wing? If the strobe light generator fails, how do I get access to it? Or do they have lifespans of 3000 hours + ?

If your going with Aeroflash they will last about 100 to 150 hours
before the big capacitor fails. Easy to replace but you need access to
the power supply.

On the HDS I put the power supplies behind the seats and ran the
sheilded wire out to the wing tips.

Martin - as I am also at that stage I have looked at lots of other builder's pictures.  Plenty of people have put an access panel in the wing tip (the metal section, of course) to get inside.  I plan on doing the same.

Martin, I just cut a hole in the metal part of the wing tip.  It is about 5" x 4" and I riveted a coverplate, inside the opening.  I decided that drilling out rivets once in 10 years or so wouldn't be so bad.

I haven't done it yet but I plan to either when I've finished with everything else and I'm waiting on an AW inspection, Flying and there is a bad weather day and I really want to be at the airport or the thing fails.

Which ever comes first.

I don't know about Frank's, but my Aeroflash strobes have over 400 hours on
them and they are still working.

Thx for all your answers!

With the access panel in the aluminium part of the wing tip, did you install the strobe-generator at the backside of the spar?
