Group,

This question is really for John H., but I posted to the list for anyone else that might be interested in a simple way to transfer fuel from the can to your tank, that is also easy to stow onboard during flight with minimal weight or space penalty.

John, please refresh me on the tube you use, material type and size, and if possible a good mail order source. I have not found a local A/C supply Co. i trust, so most items I buy have been bought online.

BTW, I found those golf tees, and they fit the vent holes we drilled in the gas cans like they were made to be there! Great tip, Thanks!

Hi Mike S:

To transfer fuel from the can to the aircraft I use 6 feet of 1" OD X
7/8" ID vinyl hose. Can pick it up at anything large hardware store,
or try Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

Been using this system since I learned about it from a friend who flew
an S-1 Pitts. Was walking by his hanger one day, where he was
standing off from the airplane, holding the gas can up and
transferring fuel from can to tank via the 1" hose.

Wish I knew how much fuel I have transferred this way.

You're a better man than I, Gunga0 Din.

Been the bilateral hernia route lifting0 tail of my 150C taildragger out of deep sand at Salton Sea some years ago and0 too old to do that kinda stuff now, even two handed, and definitely not one.0 Just ordered Petro Pump, about $45 delivered. Comes with a four foot hose and 50 gal can. May not be the best, but the best I can afford at the moment and don't0 have a pickup for the 55 gallon drums I used to haul earlier and fill wing tanks0 with a wobble pump.

I use the same arrangement, red poly tank with loop handle,
vinyl hose fits perfectly over the stub on the tank cap. As I0
remember, the tank
had some kind of a self-venting device on it which I removed
to clamp the hose on. I drilled a very small hole in the handle
for the vent. My tanks are in the standard MkIII location so I don't
have to lift far for gravity to do the job.
