I put mine and two others on top of the vertical stab. Not difficult and if you notice that is where most of the spam cans put theirs. It is out of the way and you won't trip over it or some kid won't play with is on a ramp etc. I have seem some under the tail but I don't believe that is a good place. The reception pattern is pretty uniform and clear on the top of the tail also.

The antenna base (hockey puck) I have is wider than the top of the rudder. Did you cut a notch and let a half inch hang out on either side?
Thanks again for your time.
