I went to a Fly-In at Dart Field (D79) in south western NY Saturday and
as I was departing, I saw a yellow Kolb Firestar arriving. If I had not
had to get back home, I'd have landed again and talked to the guy. It
was not Ed Steuber or Bob Bean. Their Kolbs are neither Firestars nor
yellow.

Does anyone on the list know who owns a yellow Firestar in western NY
or northwestern PA?

Dave,

I'm now flying a 2003 model Allegro 2000 S-LSA w/ 912UL engine. There are three of us now sharing the purchase and overhead costs, and looking for two more for a total of five. Great flying airplane and good visibility considering the engine is in the front, but nothing like the viz in a Kolb or Titan.

Attached is a photo of N221FA.

Hey, I recognize that plane and hangar. Looks like you got it from
Frank Cuba in Silver Creek, NE. I fly in there every couple of weeks.
I really liked the looks of the plane, but I'm so tall I was hitting
my head on the skylight, looking at each side through the wing roots. :>(

JD,

Yes, N221FA was a demo plane I bought from Frank. The seats can be lowered easily and probably enough to accommodate a pretty tall person, (I'm 5'-10) but the wing roots are definitely at eye level for most pilots. The long wing (35 1/2 feet) sure makes it fly differently than my old Tornado w/ 20' wing, and of course my old Firestar too. The Titan would drop in very fast without power but the Allegro is almost a motor glider.

Thom, the Allegro sure is a beautiful looking plane. I think i heard you mention once what your'e flying, but had no idea what it looked like. You had me curious as to what you went to after the titan. Thanks for the response and the nice picture. Safe flying,  best regards. Dave Culver ( Please don't archive) [quote][b]

Thom,

You weren't at the Smoketown fly-in Saturday morning were you?
Someone ask me to give him a hand with his beautiful Allegro to push
it back a bit into the lineup of planes.
I didn't get his name.

Gene,

Nope. I was at the Dart Field (D79) Fly-in on Saturday near Mayville at the west end of Lake Chatauqua in western NY. Where is Smoketown?

Gene,

Thanks for the link. That's less than one tank full from my homebase at Buffalo-Lancaster (BQR).

I might make it down there sometime.
