None of this is too big a deal, but I did a bit of updating on
some things today, and some people may be interested. I'm still
backlogged with lots of info to finally get in the tips area, but
here are the most recent things I have.

** Show's new TruTrak Pitch servo mod...you may want to
get this one if you aren't flying yet.

http://www.myrv10.com/N104CD/upgrades/20060531/index.html
** More pinpoint install photos, since production
pinpoints are starting to ship

http://www.myrv10.com/N104CD/maintenance/20060809/index.html
** Added photos of new axle spacers

http://www.myrv10.com/N104CD/maintenance/20060601/index.html
** Added Oil Analysis Info

http://www.myrv10.com/tips/workarea.html

Tim,

I have the 90 degree B&C oil filter adapter. I did the first oil change
after ten hours and following directions punched a hole in the top of the
filter before removing it. Waited 20 minutes and removed the filter. Not a
drop of oil. My assessment of going with the 90 degree adapter - easy on
easy off and no mess.

That's real cool if you could pull it off within 20 minutes.
I wonder how much would be left after 10? I'm usually ready
to yank the filter within 10 minutes of popping the top cowl.
If you can pull it in 10, I may actually buy one some day.

Tim,

Hey pop a top on a Bud Lite, put on a Willie Nelson CD and 20 minutes goes
by real quick. On a more serious note on my last flight the EGT on cyl#5
went to 1425 degrees and did not respond to a full rich mixture setting. I
pulled the injector and soaked it in MEK for 20 minutes (there's that time
again - maybe 10 minutes would work). Test flight this morning and now #5
is the coolest EGT. May clean the others.

Mark,

Do you have a picture posted some where of your 90 degree B&C oil filter adapter? If not,
could you post one?

Thank you,

Rodger,

Just looked through my albun and can't find one. I'm going to the hangar
tomorrow and will get one or two to send you.

Rodger,

I just checked Scott Schmidt's site and he has a great shot of the adapter
attached to the engine before he hung the engine. Look under "IO-540 for
RV10". Let me know if you would still like pictures of mine and I'll get
them to you.

Thank you, Mark. I looked at Scott's pics. Looks like the filter is turned 90 degrees by the adapter and is butt high. So by punching a hole in the top (butt) of the filter, the oil drains back into the engine with nothing left after about 20 minutes. This looks like a mess saving way to change the oil filter. What specific adapter did you order from B&C for your IO-540? I looked at their website and they have several.

Thanks again,

Roger

I bought the ECI 90 degree oil filter adaptor and it comes with a quick drain built in so you can drain the oil filter separately without having to punch a hole in the filter. I removed the adaptor quick drain, which is a 1/4 inch pipe thread hole, and used the opening to attach the inlet line from my pre-oilier so I will still have to punch a hole in the filter.
