Dear Sir,
Your letter caused me some offence. I am
Russian, and have been sevicing Russian planes all my
life. Now, living in the UK, I work in helping you
guys to be able to fly the planes which you were lucky
enough to buy. I don't think that it was tactful of
you to write that remark. May I suggest that it is not
the quality of the planes that is bad, as much as the
quality of attention or care that they are getting. I
would like this message to be shown publically.

Well gents. I machined the dome to clean it up. The
spec in the book is 0.5 mm.
This is approx 19 thousands. Cylindricity was a
major issue. I laid it out and,
took the measurements on the CMM. So now I have a
complete CAD input and, can
fab one from any material I want. Horrible Russian
quality. I guess Russian
and Quality in the same sentence is an Oxymoron.
Anyway, I have pics if anyone
is interested. Hope to post them to my web page as
soon as the wife gets it
going again.
So far no leaks. Only an hour in the air yet. I live
in Mich and. is an inclimate
toilet so..... flying is limited.

I'm in the final stretch of my pre-purchase research
for a CJ to be based near
Toronto. I've learned alot about the aircraft here,
but I have a few additional
questions when someone has a moment.
First, as it can get cold here from time to time
(like October to April!) I'm interested
in any cold wx ops tips. What sort of engine oil
and/or cylinder heater
is good on the Housai? I have electricity available
in the hanger I will
be using. If I only use an oil pan heater, what
sort of warm-up procedure will
keep my engine happy? I've noticed comments
regarding Carb Ice for the M-14,
is the Housai the same?
Can anyone recommend a list of spares and tools to
have at immediate readiness?
What size of portable air compressor would be good
for that inevitable day when
I forget to close the main air valve, and what sort
of adaptor would I need to
connect to the filler port?

As far as tools go, see if you can a engine set for
the M-14. There some specialized
tools in there that are a big help. Every thing
else is metric. Mostly
7mm, 9mm, 11mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, and 21mm. Just go
out and buy a good set
of all sizes of metric tools. Do the same for
sockets. I forget what size the
plugs are. One special tool I found very handy is
the socket to take off the
oil screen at the back of the engine, however you
can find a socket that will
fit that. There are a few specialized tools to
remove the compressor and mags,
but you can make these.
An ordinary air compressor will not build up enough
pressure to fully load up a

Just an observation here, long time owners of these aircraft recognize that Russian philosophy of design is different that what we see in our $1000 per/toliet seat U.S. government contracts. Russians are very practical, they matched the machine and material to the mission. The MiG is a good example, smooth rivets where needed, dome heads where not. Flying blowtorches for short range interceptors, super-efficient "Bears" for extreme long-range cruisers.
Primary aerobatic trainers are built with gear that stands up to forced landings, bridge rivets that don't pull through. Ugly as sin, but then again they can't all be Chinese CJ's :>)

Gena I know the Russian's designed and the Romanians built one of the best
planes I've ever flown the Yak 52 and as far as how well they are built I
helped rebuild a 1983 52 that was landed on its nose causing damage to the
forward underbelly we had a derelict fuselage for parts a 1982 and once all
the celecos were in all the holes lined up perfect, I was amazed! kudos to
the Builders and designers.
