A couple of Steves asked about moving the battery to the firewall. I've
finally finished moving mine, & have a few pics if anyone is interested.
Also, Sam Buchannan recently posted a link to his install on his -6,
which would work fine on a -4 also.
I've copied his message & link below; if my pics are desired, let me
know & I'll either post them or send them direct if that's preferred.

I have been very happy with the firewall-mounted battery on my RV-6. I
didn't reweigh the plane but considering the new battery is lighter than
the Concord I suspect the mod had very little impact on CG. I couldn't
detect any difference in flight characteristics after the move.

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for the tip. I love the idea of moving the battery forward. That
would help my weight and balance. I have the 0-290 up front and am currently
limited to less that 160 in the rear seat. Let me know how the battery
relocation goes...

Charlie,
Been there, did that, 2 years ago on my -4 with an Odessey PC680. Posted pics on Doug Reeves site, works great and I now use the empty battery box area as a forward baggage box after I hinged the top cover.I put the PC680 on the right side of the shelf in a batt box I fabricated for it. Same battery still working very well.
Reduced the overall weight by 12 lbs and added utility, a win-win...
