Oil leaks... the gift from Hell that keeps on giving!
Any other Soob owners out there have persistent or recurring oil leaks like I do? I have a quasi-NSI non-turbo EA-81 that I rebuilt using most of their subkits (sans redrive and dual-ignition). I have 24 hours on the airplane, and am about to replace the flywheel crank seal for the second time already. Do "real" NSI engines have any provision for keeping that seal in place? I don't know if vibration wiggled it loose or something else. Anyway, I can peer up behind the flywheel and clearly see that the seal has worked its way out a bit again. As for my other oil leak, I have decided to live with the occasional drop I see from above the oil pump region. I don't think I'll ever fix that short of rebuilding the entire engine.
Suggestions and advice very welcome!

Hello Margaret,
If the seal is a new OEM, then you might have an internal pressure problem
that is pushing it out.
Also, long ago someone on the list, who's name I can't recall, was selling
inexpensive seal retainers he fabricated for the oil pump seal. I bought
and installed it and have had no problems.
Good luck.

Locktite makes a substance that will hold the seal in place and fill any
imperfections. I can not remember the number. A bearing and seal supply
house will be able to tell you. I had a lot of problems with the input seal
on the gearbox. Vented the box and used the locktite glue/sealer no more
problems.

Mine leaks a drop at a time from the (aircraft) rear,
but I can't seem to locate thes source.
I agree that the Loctite solution should do for you.
Make sure to have 2 good clean surfaces when you apply
it.
Also check your crankcase breather vents to make sure
they are not clogged. Don't want excessive pressure
in there.

I have the EA81 T (not NSI) and 30 hrs still bone dry. I use loctite gasket
sealer for engine joints ans seal guard on front seal. Prosealed the f/wheel
seal. Fingers crossed...
