Any ideas on how to stop hoses from kinking?

I've recently assisted with replacing some coolant hoses on a 912
engine. The new hoses aren't as stiff as the old ones, and have a
tendency to kink slightly in a couple spots, which would lead to
reduced internal diameter.

Some options involve changin the whole setup: find stiffer hoses, add
angled joints, or look for pre-formed auto hoses that better match
the needed shapes.

Tying the hoses down in certain places distributed bending stresses
and therefore reduces the tendency for the hoses to kink at a certain
spot. Another solution I'm experimenting with is to wrap the hose in
the critical spot with sheet aluminum, which is then compressed with
a tie wrap, in an attempt to force the hose to "stay round", and/or
not to bend as much at that point along the hose.

car!

Hi Peter & all,

The best I've found is to get a suitable spring wound by a spring
manufacturer to snugly fit the O.D. of the pipe - not too hard to do
yourself with some 2mm diameter spring steel wire on a former (broom stick
handle ? )
