The problem with the unit is that the display went black, and the 2 LEDs that are soldered to the board that light up the disc slot are shot. I swapped faceplates to confirm, I even swapped another board to see if the ribbon cable was bad. I ran a diode tester on the LED’s to check them out. The Extent of my soldering skills would be making repairs to the occasional Ibook DC in jack at work, so I don’t want to attempt to desolder and resolder chips and led’s, leaving the board trashed. 2 of my C90s are in like brand new shape, I replaced the faceplate plastics to make them like new again, I also have a junker body which also has a bad board and everything else works fine. I wish Sony would just reintroduce this unit again, Clarion did with their DRZ9255. Sony should realize that their is a real market for repairing C90’s since they are still considered top notch SQ decks. Oh well, they are loosing out.
I have a question about display brightness, I have to turn the contrast all the way to 15 for optimum viewing, and I keep it positive, forget about negative in the day time. Judjing by how I have to set the contrast level, this would indicate how dim my face plates really are. How do you guys have your contrast levels and pos, neg settings set?

Sony gave me the same story about the board in my C90 being bad, and I tried a different repair specialist and ran into another roadblock. I needed Part Number: 1-577-685-11 Filter, Crystal, which Sony no says they longer have available. I just checked out Partstore.com and they list the part as available, but after calling it turns out they have none in stock. Even though they say they will be receiving a shipment, I can't help but find it doubtful...
My backup C90 is in great shape aside from not recognizing CD's, so now I'm just keeping it around in case something goes wrong with my current C90.
I too brought up the question with Sony as to why they are having such a hard time finding parts for this since as I understood it was still somewhat recently sold in Japan... They're answer to me is that they have no connection to Sony Japan, and that even if the part was available over there, they would not be able to get it here... Very disappointing...

I am suprised sony wont fix it and said they no longer make the part since up until 3 years ago they were still selling the cdx-c90 in japan and europe if I am not mistaken. so you would think they would still have access to those parts

Ok, I need some help here. I recently sent in my spare C90 to Sony for the
$125.00 flat rate repair, and just got a call back from the Loredo repair
center. They told me that they cannot get the parts to fix my C90, and
offered me an Xplod alternative, of course I said NO. The thing is, I know
exactly what needs replacing, it is all in the main board. If I could get my
hands on a good main board I would do it myself, since I have had C90's
apart several times. These units are so
