I've been playing around with various handheld GPS and I've found the Lowrance units to be the best value IMHO. I'd like the larger screen of the 2000c, but I'm concerned that mounting it in my CJ will end up blocking more of the instrument panel than is wise.
I should mention that my newly purchased airplane is currently being assembled in Victoria, BC and I'm in Toronto so heading out to the airport and checking isn't a practical option.
A right side mounting blocks the fuel guage and the oil cooler control, the left side blocks the gear lights, gills control and possibly interferes with the power quadrant. Any thoughts?
Also, for any of the Canadians in the crowd, do either (or neither, as the case may be) of these units qualify as 'adequate Radio Navigation Equipment' for VFR over the top?

Mike,
If you want a large screen unit at a reasonable price check out the
Honeywell Skyforce C-III, color moving map GPS. I have one for each pit and
have used the Skyforce unit for 4 years now with a leg strap and find that
while having it in the panel would be nice, having it right there on your
leg is often much more convenient. Contact me off list for more info and
also some panel mod options or give me a call (at) 509-826-4610.
Always Yakin,
Doug Sapp
