Sorry, I couldn't resist sharing this info after it was brought to my attention by a friend that built a 701. Zenith 701 is an incredible STOL aircraft and is well known for it's leading edge slats. Checkout below where flight testing has been done with slats compared to slats removed and VG's added. The slats do help create additional lift at high angles of attack, but also add a lot of drag in normal flight configurations. Read the numbers for yourself and if you don't think they will help your Kolb, you are missing out on a good thing. Try VG's, you'll be amazed that such a simple little thing can make such a big improvement in your aircraft performance and it doesn't have downsides. They did also add them to the underside of the horizontal stab's on the 701, similar to what many of us have done on Kolbs. You don't have to spend a lot of money if you don't want.... Jack Hart and others have provided all the info you need to make your own for a few bucks like I did.

Thanks to a beautiful evening and my VGs and flaps I had the
privilege Sunday evening to fly in a nice stable nose high 28 mph
indicated airspeed side by side in close formation with a local
two place powered parachute.
I think all that is pretty amazing for a fat pilot in a fat Kolb
Firestar.
VGs ,,,,,,, big improvement ,,,,,,,, no downsides ?
YOU BET !
