I know I am a little late with my response, but here is how I feel.
Yes! There is not much activity on this site. Who's fault is it? Rather than complaining maybe we all should make it a point to take a few minutes each week to send an e-mail to get some discussions started. My observation is that if someone asks a question, or makes a controversial statement it draws out a lot of replies and useful information. So lets do it!
Now to get off my soap box!
I have been building, off and on, for many years, between honey do lists, an F.8L. It has been a very rewarding project, in terms of learning so much about structure systems and fabrication techniques.
I have a lot of pieces that are quite far along. Tail section with control surfaces is assembled. Wing structure is still in the jig, but nearly complete, with gear, control surfaces installed. About ready to have an EAA Technical Counselor come in and go over every detail before the final skinning. Fuselage is assembled. I did this separate from the wing, and plan to mate them together when the wing comes out of the jig. The most recent part has been fabrication of the Cowling, which I am fabricating over a mold. Have not started glassing the cowling, but hope to get it done this winter. I will have to fire up my wood burning stove, here in Massachusetts it gets rather cool for several months.
Enough for now, will try to continue more later.
