|
|
Hi,
Can anyone throw any light on the following? I'm rebuilding kit # 31 which was obviously an early Classic machine. I've been told that the tailplane torque tube from a new XS kit will be too small for my Classic tailplane fittings because the tube diameter was changed at some point. This change was only a few thou of an inch but using an XS tube will give too much play.
Does anyone know when this change was made?
Does anyone have an old Classic tailplane torque tube that they do not need?
Thanks,
Phil

Hi Phil,
I don't know the answer to your question for sure, but I have access to
several early torque tubes that I could measure if you wished. However I
suggest the best route to an answer is via Europa 2004 or Andy Draper who is
now with the PFA

Hi Phil,
I have now measured two torque shafts, one early type, one much later. The
earlier one has a diameter of pretty well dead on 1.500" and the other newer
version came in at 1.496". Obviously a 4 thou difference! This would give a
sloppy fit in the main phosphor bushes.
Since the newer tubes are only the older ones turned or ground down I guess
Europa could probably source an un turned one for you. This should then fit
your older classic bearings and fittings.
