Mike,

I got your post. Nothing else recently. So might as well say something.

I flew Idaho back country for a couple of days with Stick & Rudder about a
month ago, fun and I learned a lot, did not think I would say that since I
have played with my model IV 1050, 80 hp Rotax for over a decade and been
all over the country, more on that in a second.

Paul Liedebrand's Kitfox specific flight school is not your average flight
school taught by kids right out of a big CFI training program for sure.

Paul keeps his planes in great shape, amazing for back country trainers
and a testament to his operation as well as the airframe.

We stopped at the factory and visited with Debra & John. I let them know
how impressed I am with how refined the current model 7 is compared to
earlier versions like mine. Good to see Kitfox on solid footing and
turning out great planes, capable planes, FUN PLANES!

My wife and I have been trailering our Kitfox all over the country every
year for a something over a decade behind a small motorhome, combining
touring by motor home and flying in spectacular places I probably would
never have flown down low and slow in otherwise.

Typically at Sebring, Sun N Fun, Air Venture, Copper State & a few other
aviation events I do a couple of forums, no sales, just sharing some low
and slow photos from touring and lots of tips on how to make it
inexpensive, simple, quick, easy, safe and of course FUN. After decades of
flying to work all over the country in Mooneys and Turbo Twin Comanches I
had no idea what I was missing until the Kitfox entered our lives.

Hope to see some Kitfox folks this year at the various aviation events
while we are touring and of course learn from others in the process.

I flew with Paul in August and was also very impressed. Stick & Rudder is a class act all the way, and the Series 7 is an amazing airplane. I plan to go back for some more back country training.

If you are the guy that trailers his 'Fox all over the country, I just missed you at Oshkosh. Maybe I'll catch you at Copper State next Fall.

Having just moved to NM from Europe, I'm now that much close to going and
flying with Stick & Rudder. There was a nice article about them in the
latest Kitplanes. That and your comments have convinced me I'll have to
organize a trip up there sometime!

Check with Paul Leaderbrand (Stick & Rudder) about times of year for best
flying weather.

Have Fun

Austin

We LOVE swinging down to tour around the south west national parks, Moab,
Canyon Lands, Arches, Monticello, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Lake
Powell, Dead Horse, Islands In The Sky Etc etc toward the end of our
annual cross country touring from the Florida Keys, to Down East Maine,
then over tho the Rockies and the Pacific coast swinging down toward the
end of the trip to Copper State. Its a convenient stop so we will probably
be there doing a forum or two and with the plane, trailer, and little
Roadtrek RV on display. Hope to see you, and chat. And yes I had the rig
on display at Oshkosh during most of Air Venture until a big charity run
event took over our spot near the Red Barn UL area.

Thanks, BJ. I'm going to try very hard to make it to CS this Fall. Look for a red and yellow Rans S7S, N137SW. If you are ever in the Lake Havasu area, let me know. Debra McBean sent me looking for you after I asked about trailering Kitfoxes. Unfortunately, I got there just after you left. I hadn't purchased my S7S yet, and was still shopping for a plane. It finally came down to tandem versus side by side, and the Rans won. I was very interested in a Kitfox Paul told me about, and would have bought it, but the deal didn't materialize. They are great planes.

See you at CS.

AD Hope our paths cross. We enjoy Lake Havasu. The waterfront camp ground
there (state park I think?) does not allow RV generators at night for AC
and dose not have shore power hook ups. WE watch the weather for early Nov
cold fronts to visit.

I've monitored (lurked) and enjoyed this list for several years now, but there hasn't been much activity. I also monitor & participate in the TeamKitfox site. I understand the nostalgia for lists like this, as I used to participate in information sharing lists in the earlier days of computers, with nothing more than a "smart" keyboard and a 300 baud rate modem. I'm building a Series 7 SS (my 2nd homebuilt). I get a daily email "digest" from both sites... it's not at all difficult to set up. I think I would appreciate this site even more if there was more current activity like there evidently was in the "old" days. It's also a little frustrating to have to wade through multiple duplicate messages when users don't seem to know how to "clean up" a post with the delete key. Another thing frustrating is the occasional post that contains nothing but a bunch of undecipherable code. The TeamKitfox site is more modern of course, and I appreciate the relative ease of posting pictures right along with your message for instance. There is also a lot more current information from builders being shared now. Again, I like them both, and I contribute to Matronics during the fund drive. The AeroElectric connection Matronics list is also one that I like.
Some might ask why I haven't contributed more posts to this list myself. I guess the main reason is that I spend too much time on the internet as it is, & I try to concentrate that time where I get the "most bang for the buck".

An FYI,

The US Sport Aviation Expo, in Sebring, Florida, this January 14 thru 17
will host three forums on combining touring the US by small motor home and
Kitfox (or Just, Avid, Aerotrek, etc).

My wife and I have taken our Kitfox IV, Rotax 80, all over the US each
year for over a decade. Starting in the Florida keys, hitting down east
coastal Maine and the International Seaplane fly in at Moose Head Lake,
eating lots of lobsters, heading out to the Pacific coast, crossing back
over to play extensively in the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Moab, Bryce
Canyon, Montecello and Canyon Lands area, and on our return playing on
remote Gulf coast barrier islands with a whole lot more in between.

We rarely stay overnight at RV parks, saving huge expenses that way, which
is surprisingly easy. I am happy to share how this process of touring by
RV and LSA can be remarkably inexpensive and of course huge FUN.

The plane and enclosed trailer, which serves as a mobile hanger and shop,
is dropped off at airports along the way where we want to fly, down low
and slow, which of course is our pleasure in the Kitfox. Then, when the
weather is spectacular we hop in the Kitfox and go flying, what a treat.
No need to schedule a check ride to use a rental plane, no scheduling of a
rental plane in advance just to find the weather did not cooperate or the
rental is out of service and no worries about rental aircraft maintenance
history. Best of all the types of places we fly in (NOT OVER) are
absolutely meant for light STOL aircraft like a Kitfox.

For those who do not fold their wings frequently, From pulling the trailer
thru an airport gate to having the Kitfox out of its nest, wings swung and
ready to fly is as little as 8 minutes if you have your act down pat. I
can show lots of tips on "How To Do It". We have probably 85,000 plus
miles over the road with the plane in the trailer without hurting the
plane And only been denied access thru an airport gate once.

If you get a chance come by one of the forums, love to exchange ideas,
learn from others.

Oh, I will probably do similar forums again this year at Sun N Fun, Air
Venture and Copper State. No sales involved, just info sharing from a
member of the SoutherMost EAA Chapter 1241, Marathon, Florida Keys

Best to all for the new year.

Thanks, BJ. I'm going to try very hard to make it to CS this Fall. Look
for a red and yellow Rans S7S, N137SW. If you are ever in the Lake Havasu
area, let me know. Debra McBean sent me looking for you after I asked
about trailering Kitfoxes. Unfortunately, I got there just after you left.
I hadn't purchased my S7S yet, and was still shopping for a plane. It
finally came down to tandem versus side by side, and the Rans won. I was
very interested in a Kitfox Paul told me about, and would have bought it,
but the deal didn't materialize. They are great planes.

See you at CS.
