Some texts I have read call for Housai Engine start with the prop in full coarse pitch.
Is this what everybody does ? If so what is the logic.

For those Huosai's and M14"s residing in warm places it probably does not
matter whether the prop. is in fine or coarse for start up.
For colder climates shutting down in fine pitch leaves the pitch change
cylinder full of oil. That cylinder is under the nose cap right out in the
cold. Since these are single acting propellors the only force available to
move that cold oil out of the cylinder and back through the governor is
centrifugal force from the counter weights.
At idle or low RPM that force is minimal so depending on the OAT you could
be sitting for a very long time for that cold (thick) oil to move. I'm
sure some have noted that the prop. occasionally quits working at altitude.
Same reason. In smooth, stable air the prop. may not need to move to
maintain constant speed for a period of time then when it does it won't.
Cold oil is trapped in the cylinder. That is why the nose cap has a felt
liner inside.
