Not too sure if this is appropriate to post here but
an aquaintence of mine asked me to pass this along.
It has a bit of historic value.

For Sale:

Zenair Zipper, a historic folding wing ultralight.
with 277 rotax and reduction gearbox, but prop has
been damaged. Fuselage has damage at wing root area,
wing tips damaged but leading edges are fine. Fabric
is good, tail is good. Solid main gear has been
replaced with spring system. Nose gear broken off. All
three wheels are there. Airspeed indicator, EGT, CHT,
compass. Not registered but this plane is serial
#2. Asking $1300, motivated seller. 519-665-7870

Sorry but I don't have any further information about
this aircraft. If you are interested in the aircraft,

So on that Zipper, only the fuselage, wing, gear, prop (and thus
engine?) are damaged.

I'm so glad that everything else is in fine shape! Smile

Like the fabric. Hopefully not the original stuff from 1983.

That was all back in the day when Zenair's basic product brochure was
a two sided photocopied sheet with all the different aircraft models,
and the text was full of typos. I sure hoped the planes were less
crude than the marketing. Not sure if they actually were any less
crude (although they were clever in some ways), but at least they
were easily buildable and flyable.

The two engines one is for sure a single seater...

I believe they built about 100 Zenair Zippers. Most were single engine models powered by a JPX 2 cycle engine but there were a few twin engine designs built. I owned a single engine Zipper for a year, but never flew it. I was not able to get parts for the JPX engine and sold the project to buy a Quicksilver. I have attached a picure of my Zipper with my wife and oldest son. Also attached is a picture of a twin that I found on the internet.

Admittedly, it might be a little crude by today's
standards but when compaired to similar vintage
ultralights it looks like a well though out machine.
At first I thought it kinda looked like a Lazair.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know what became of the Zipper? I mean real part 103! Heck If I had seen this thing 3 years ago I'd have found one and I'd be building a 601 instead of a 701! Well not really, maybe a Buttercup, I really am kind of a high wing guy.

I have one in my hangar and doing a restoration on it. You can go to my
Yahoo group I started for other Zipper owners or wanna be owners. Not a lot
going on there yet but expect a lot of pictures and stories on the project.

IT is a really light plane, with the new engines out here with more power and lighter than the old Rotax 277. it will be a nice permormer. The rudder and horizontal is just like the 701, well the construction methods are identical, the airfoil on the horizontal is different but the rudder is the same as the 601 and 701

That twin engine plane in the oshkosh photo was my plane. It is currently for sale with the trailer for $2600 by some fellow in California. The fellow who bought it from me was from the west coast but that was a number of years ago. The first zipper model was a single place with the 22 hp french engine. Then they came out with a single place with a rotax 27 of 28 hp. I owned one of each of those and sold both. Finally I purchased a two place with no flying hours on it with a crop spraying outfit. A two place cannot be a part 103 so I removed the crop spray stuff and rerigged the rudder pedals to it could be flown single place as a legal part 103 and flew it in Illinois, at the Zenith flyin in Missouri and at sun and fun in Florida where I sold it. I have also built, flown and sold a 701. The zipper was truly ahead of its time for an ultralight. 3 axis controls, princeton folding sailwing. The trick with the twin was to keep the rpm of each engine the same or it would yaw into the slow engine and could not be flown except in a circle if one shut down. I built the trailer in the photo and put lots of miles on it going to shows.
