I have a friend that bought a Firestar that has a kinked boom tube, right under the prop. It had a collar over it, and it was being flown like that, but he wants a better fix. A firestar II boom is available. Will a firestar II boom fit a firestar? Can a used boom tube be fit to another airplane. Is there another fix?
Thanks

Going to take a new 5" tube and H Brace.  There was enough variation in fuselages, even though welded up in the same jig, to prevent a tube fit to one fuselage being used on a different fuselage.

Don't recommend flying with a kinked boom tube.

You will need to compare the tubes & cages. Is the wall thickness the same, and is the OD of the tube the same? Is the distance from the front collar to the H brace & aft bolt hole the same?

When Ed folded up FSII N582EF (before & after pictures here - http://oh2fly.net/oldpoops/kolb.htm - ) we found a basket case FSII in Florida and went and got it. As it turned out, the boom fit perfectly and assembling the two basket cases into one good airplane was pretty simple, and the boom tube into the cage almost a no-brainer, line the pieces up, a big rubber hammer and - ka-ching.

As John said, there may be variation between a FS and a FSII. In our situation, we were using 2 FSII's, and everything fit very well. Your results may vary - measure carefully.

I would not consider flying a Kolb of any description with a kink in the boom tube. It needs to stay a hangar queen until it gets fixed.
