Hi there...We have a CJ-6 just imported out of Australia (VH-NNE) that has been flying with the serial number listed as 2432027.
Inspection of the data plate would indicate that it is actually stamped as 3432027.
Can anyone tell me if 343 is a valid factory ??? code?
It is a 1968 model
Need to ask so that when our Feds look at the data plate they will no doubt ask all sorts of questions!

Regards, Jay

Jay;

2432027 would be correct for a 1967 – 1968 model CJ.

The middle digits ( "320" ) is the factory number (Nanchang). The first 2 digits indicate either the batch number that airframe was made in OR the aircraft number in that batch. The same with the last two digits.
Right now I can't remember which. I wrote an article a number years ago in RedAlert and printed a list of batch number dates. Some of the batches were only 10 aircraft or so. Some batches had as many as 80. There was no specific date except what months and year a batch was made.

It was interesting to note if you compared the length of time a batch was in production vs the number of airframes in that batch, the Chinese (unless my math and memory is wrong) were turning out a CJ-6 every 3 or 4 days. Not quite as respectable as a B-24 every 55 minutes during WW2 but a pretty good rate.

Hope that helps some.
