I have no doubt that it is very enjoyable to become proficient in a mono (I also fly a tail dragger and enjoy greasing landings). The problem in America is insurance. When I finished my tri-gear and shopped for insurance, the first question I was asked after telling them I had a Europa was " is it a mono". If it was, they had no interest in insuring me. Also, in America we have free landings and take-offs so normally we fly out of hardtop airports, not out of farmer's fields as was originally planned for the Europa. I do fly into grass strips (my wheel pants are a bit high), but the norm is concrete.
I do agree the design is brilliant and the Mono well suited to the European environment - but the learning curve on any tail dragger can be steep and expensive. And insurance companies don't like being in charge of the latter.
