Of course I know nothing of your fuel filter problem, but I would be fairly confident that a shortage of fuel, which presumably is what happened, would cause a consistent rough running problem. However, with a failing magneto coil, what makes it difficult to solve is, quite simply, that it is inconsistent and will only occur at certain times, and typically when the engine is hot.

In addition to following all of the good recommendations in tracing the roughness problem, I suggest using the incident as a reminder to check and clean the fine fuel filter (if installed). This solved a rough-running problem in my 52W years ago. Mike Roehr
