Hi guys it's my first time to Oshkosh and I'd like to know if anyone has previously been to the Vans dinner?

Is there likely to be an RV-10 community presence there and is it a networking event to meet up with the staff from Vans?

I'd also love to come along to your RV-10 camp dinner too please if the invite is there?

I'm looking forward to finally meeting up with as many of you as possible.

Warm regards and safe skies.

I was there many years ago.
You will find many people who've built many types of RV's that attend,
so I'm sure there will at least be some RV-10 builder that shows up.
But, it
will just be some random builders, not like a coordinated group of any
specific models. You will also get to talk to some of Van's staff, but
I didn't
find that there was an extreme "networking" side to the evening. It was
just a very nice dinner with a bunch of RV people. I wouldn't want to
discourage you from going, because it was a nice dinner. But it wasn't
a "can't miss" event either. You will probably enjoy the RV-10 camp dinner
much more if you attend them both. But you only show up on our
continent once in a while so take in all you can if you feel inclined.
Looking forward to meeting you too.

I second Tim's assessment.  The 10 contingent at the Van's dinner is more eclectic - a large mass of divergent models. With Bob Condrey involved at the RV 10 dinner, make a point of being there Sunday.  I will buy your Beer.

I've been to all but one Vans banquet for the last ten years. The last three or four years they have done a pretty good job of having an interesting keynote speaker. Last year the presentation focused on all the safety testing of the RV-14. There was also a short presentation on the Eagle Nest Projects. You never know the topic until dinner starts.

There always will be a 5 minute talk from Dick, then one of the staff will talk about the state of Vans for a few minutes. Dinner always ends with a raffle. I won a $100 Avery Tools gift certificate a few years ago.

If you want to network, then show up an hour earlier. Once dinner starts, you're limited to the folks sitting around you. Yes, there historically been a group of RV-10 builders the sit together.

The RV-10 dinner always has an open invite and nobody is turned away. I'll be posting details around the 11th.

A couple of years ago I attended the Van's dinner and I ended up sitting next to the guy who makes the RV-10 windshields. That was perfect cause I quickly found out what he recommends to glue in the windshield with. It wasn't Weldon...
I think it is a great networking event, and agree with Tim that you shouldn't miss it, but if you want to meet RV-10 folks come to the RV-10 dinner.

Many thanks Lenny.

Just out of interest, what did he recommend?

Warm regards

Was it the owner off Desser (Cee baileys)? I think I would have let the guy
know that he needs to improve his design of the windscreen as mine had a
bulge on the bottom right area that really was subpar. I replaced mine with
a perfect fit Cee Baileys. Used whatever Vans sold and recommended. has not
fallen off yet, so I guess it works.

He recommended ScotchWeld. Tested it and it wasn't very good.
I ended up using Sikaflex 295UV, because in all my tests it came out the strongest of anything else I tried. I was never able to separate the fiberglass from the plexi.
But as with many "improvements" over Van's recommendation it didn't work out all that well. My paint is wrinkling over it, probably because i sanded through most of the fiberglass layer that covers it. Oh well...
