Dear assembled wisdom
Doing run ups today i had a drop of 500rpm on the left mag. I'm guessing that this is the ignition unit. Is there anything else i should look at?Â
Thanks Will [quote][b]

Hi Will,
A likely cause is a faulty pickup coil. There is a simple test sequence to identify whether the failing comonent is a pickup coil, ignition coil, or ignition module, and it tells you which cylinder it refers to, top or bottom.
Unfortunately I am a long way from my paperwork and wouldn't want to guess at the sequence. I believe the first step is to interchange the two connectors coming out of the ignition modules to see if the mag drop transfers to the other side. Someone else can surely point you in theright direction.

The easiest first step is to make sure your spark plug cables are firmly
attached to the plugs.

Ira,
Thanks...sound advice. Actually one of them is loose, possibly broken. Didnt have time to examine thoroughly yesterday (didnt have my tools and exhaust burn discouraged me from further fiddling) and my guru said..."mmm sounds like a plug or plug lead".
After that i will follow karls advice.
Thanks again
Will

Just to share:
It was a single faulty sensor.
My guy said there is a simple test he does (after a visual check of the plug leads) first.  He swaps the 6 pin connectors which connect the sensors to the ignition units. If the side changes then its a sensor unit...if it doesnt its something else.
