In general, Bill is of course correct, as he generally is. However,
there is a safe way to do this... with a very robust reverse current
relay that prevents a watt from ever exiting your on-premises system
toward the mains.
There are certification requirements, too, from the utility, which one
ignores at one's own risk of course. But it can be done safely, and even
legally... but it's not super inexpensive.
Easier is an isolation relay that allows EITHER mains power or
self-generation. But this is not a bumpless transfer (power fails and
then is restored...)
