Hi All

Just fitted the Tri Gear main wheels to the main gear legs for the first time.
However, the slotted main axle nut spins on so far that it is completely clear of the pre-drilled split pin hole. Picture attached.

Anyone else have this problem?

I assume the answer is to drill a new hole for the split pin but how easy will that be in the hardened steel axle.
I have a pillar drill and some cobalt drills but have experienced problems with hardened steel before.

Any advice on a solution?

Keiv,
Go to ACS or one of the wheel/brake manufacturers (MATCO, etc.) and obtain suitable spacers.

Hi Richard

I did consider packing it out with washers but the newer nut design, with the integral flange, does not specify the use of any washers.
I believe the integral flange of the nut is being used to stop the bearing grease seal rotating and I was a little concerned that this might not be achieved with a stack of washers.
The MATCO procedure is to tighten the axle nut until the grease seal does not rotate, although Europa specify a torque value of 150 in lbs for the nut in the build manual.
I will try a stack of washers or a spacer and see what happens.
If I can achieve the stationary grease seal then it is certainly easier than drilling the axle.

Thanks for the reply.

If you do have to drill get a large number of cobalt drills and start with the small number 40 or smaller. Then drill it out to sized. It took me two or three hours with a hand drill.
