Good day,
Does anyone have the size/specifications for the gear actuator o-rings? I am aware that they are "squared" but not sure of the size. Doug S is temporarily out and I am trying to source them.
Thanks,
Phil

Hi all,

I have had an actuator spec' for new NBR seals. I have gotten a quote for a
Complete set from China at around 200USD for each size.

So ( for 22000 o rings !) it works out to be about $600.

I would go ahead and get a few complete sets , but my issue is that I wonder if each actuator will need a different seal selection as there is info I the overhaul
Manual that implies one must select a size ring that gets a particular dimension ... So the set I order might only work properly on the one actuator I had measured. You are correct that they are square section o rings and the outer sets have .3 X 45 degree chamfers ( probably for ease of installation / prevent rolling) .. I might go ahead with a set to see if they will work on the other U/S actuators I have and if so the overhaul process is easy, but if a " grab" kit is needed to accurately fit each actuator it is probably easier to get them new / from PRC... Doug might be able to step in here for advice... Matt

Unless you live in Chinaand need to overhaul your actuators there,
Doug's your guy. He spends tons of money buying and MAKING parts to
support our CJ and Yak community. The least we can do is support him
and buy from him. FWIW.

Matt,I have about that number of seals here, some seem close to fitting but no joy. I can't even start to estimate the number of actuators which I have overhauled with "the correct" 0 rings only to find they still leaked.  We are at this time working with a US firm to try to discover a method of overhauling the actuators with a newer style 0 rings which is currently used in high pressure air systems in mines.
I too have discovered the need  of different "heights/thickness" of 0 rings for various cylinders depending on wear.  This really threw a wrench into the works with respect to stocking the 0 rings and offering a overhaul kit to my customers.  This problem pretty much precludes the customer from doing the overhaul himself unless the kit contained all possible wear combinations.
Round profile 0 rings do work, but they seem to not work for an extended period of time.
A side note:
We have noted cracks in the actuator rams at the base (aft end), caused, we think by the failure of the mech to properly adjust the overall length.  Rather these cracks will someday cause a ram failure is unknown but they WILL eventually cause the failure of the aft end cap/lug.  Depending on how far you tear it down we are finding that there is much more to the overhaul process than just changing out the 0 rings.
About your research:
If I can help any please let me know.  If the company is willing to send me a few samples I will be more than happy to give them a try and if they will work I'll stock them.  I have HP air in my shop with capabilities up to 1500PSI.  HP air is necessary to check a overhauled actuator properly as it should be held at least at operating pressure (45 BAR or about 650 psi) for 2-3 hours.  Checking with normal shop air of 100 psi will not give a proper indication
Give me a call if you have any additional thoughts.
Best,
Doug
