Hi all
A few questions on the hoses, for the collective wisdom of the group experts:
- The hoses currently on my aircraft have a life of 7 years from manufacture, as per the documents delivered with the hoses. I also see some people talking of 10 year life hoses. Are the 10 year hoses a Western equivalent, or are there 10 year life hoses available from the OEM?
- Is there any "conversion kit" to allow use of Western style hoses and end fittings, eg Aeroquip?
Thanks
Mike

My personal view is that the six year life on the original Russian hose material is correct – and remember that oil and fuel hoses are a safety-critical item. There is also the separate issue that the Russian material is becoming incredibly expensive, and they will also typically only sell in huge lengths.

We have developed a process to modify the Russian metal ends to accommodate Western hose material, which has a 10 year life. And of course once the ends have been modified, one can subsequently replace with the same material.

In the U.S. Yes. Elsewhere no.i worked with a local hose and gasket shop using US braided hose and the metric fittings along with fire sleeves. They are a little stiffer but meet all the temp and pressure specs as well as diameters.

Sorry if there was a problem with my previous message. What I was saying was that the lifetime of the Russian material is officially six years, and my belief is that people should stick to that for what is a safety-critical item. In addition we are finding it almost impossible to find the Russian flexible hose material, and when we do it is extraordinarily expensive. So we have worked out a system to machine the metal ends to enable them to accept Western flexible hose material, and so give them a 10 year life. This is done officially with the EASA "form one" – the highest qualification for an aviation component in Europe.
